Sufi Ghulam Mustafa Tabassum: A Teacher. An Institution .

Sufi Ghulam Mustafa Tabassum

Sufi Tabassum was not only a professor par excellence at Government College Lahore (now GCU), but an academic institution in himself. Like his other contemporaries like Professor Arnold & Patras Bokhari at GC Lahore, he raised a generation of students who redefined the world of Urdu and Punjabi Literature.

Sufi Tabassumis is also one rare author who has admirers at every age group. Pakistani children still grow up fondly memorizing his Tot Batot, Cheen Choo Chacha, and Paanch Choohay. At the same time, Sufi Tabassum was a poet with youthful heart, as his ghazals inject reader with vigor and delight, rather than sorrowful tone very common in Urdu ghazals poets.

For readers of Sufi Tabussum blog, here is a beautiful ghazal "Ye Ranginiye No Bahar, Allah Allah!", possibly a translation of Ameer Khusro's poem, sung by legendary pakistani artists Naheed Akhtar , with lyrics at www.RaviMagazine.com, Pakistan's emerging online magazine.
